Yes, this house is shaped as a crescent.
Grub-like in its appearance from the rear, it is one of those unusual architectural fantasies fully realized.
The Crescent House is located in Shizuoka, Japan.
It was designed by the Japanese architectural firm Shigeru Ban Architects.
The unique C-shaped design is elevated on “pilotis”.
The configuration frames views to Mt. Fuji in the distance while blocking away the presence of neighboring residences to the east, west or south.

The home was built in 2007-2008 and it has 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms – a suite at each end of the crescent.
The interior is a little sparse for my taste, but the sliding front windows allow for the inside to be merely a frame for the lush, expansive views.
The house is built of galvanized metal sheets, sliding glass windows, and cypress flooring.
It feels bare-naked to me, but I’m sure this home will make some die-hard minimalist very happy.
